The Best Dash Cam for Car (Review) in 2020

A dash camera can help you with an accident, ticket, insurance fraud and more. When people get in car accidents, they happen so quickly that people usually forget what happened. This will also help you if someone is lying about what happened that caused the accident. If you receive a traffic ticket for something that you didn’t do, a dash camera will help with this. To help you decide on which dash cam is best for you, we have come up with a detailed review of the best dash cam for car in the market today.

The Best Dash Cam for Car

[table id=50 /]

1. Rexing V1 – Editor’s Choice

Rexing V1 – Editor’s Choice

This dash cam is currently the number one bestseller on Amazon. It includes an abundance of awesome features to make sure that you catch everything you need to in high-definition. It films 1080P FHD resolution at 30fps. This means that it has crystal clear video quality.

The camera mounts to the windshield, and it’s unlikely that someone will see it from the outside of your car. With a 170 degrees lens, the camera makes sure that it catches a wide-angle.

You can select to record using a loop. This means all you have to do is set the camera to record, and you’ll be good to go. You don’t have to bother with it after you do this because it’ll record everything from this point on. With loop on, you can have the option of recording in loops of three, five, or 10 minutes.

The camera will record on the SD card until it runs out of the room. When space runs out on the SD card, the camera will go back to the recordings that have been on the SD card the longest and delete those to make room for new recordings.

The good news is that this camera automatically detects if you get in a car accident. It detects this by a g-sensor. The camera will automatically start recording if it detects that you have been in a car accident.

Unfortunately, the dash camera doesn’t include the SD card, but it’s an easy fix. Most SD cards are inexpensive. The SD card that you purchase can have a storage limit of 128GB. This should last you a long time before it runs out of space for recordings. You’ll need to format the SD card with your Rexing dash cam so that you don’t get a card error.

USB and audio support is included with this dash cam. Some more good news is that this dash cam can survive in temperatures up to 160 degrees Fahrenheit. Even though it can survive these extreme temperatures, we recommend removing the dash cam from your windshield when you exit your vehicle. Not only can this dash cam survive high temperatures, but it can also survive freezing temperatures as well.

If you decide to purchase this dash cam, you’ll need to connect the dash cam to external power while it’s in use. The dash cam does have batteries that can be used, but it’s mainly used during emergencies to save recordings.

What other features are included with this product? You’ll receive the dash camera, a charging cable to hook the dash cam to your vehicle, a 3M adhesive mount, USB cable and a user manual.

Conclusion

Overall, this is the editor’s choice because we think it’s the best dash camera. It’s high quality and supports audio with recordings. This dash camera won’t miss anything if you ever get in an accident and need a witness.

2. Z-Edge – Best Security Features

Z-Edge – Best Security Features

This dash cam has more features than the previous dash cam, but the price is higher. The recordings are crystal clear as it records in high-definition. The dash cam gives users three options to choose from when it comes to recording. You can choose to record in 2560x1080P, 2304x1296P, or 1920x1080P. All of these will record at 30 frames per second.

Wirecutter rated this dash cam as the best in 2016. Each time you put the key in your ignition to start your vehicle, this dash cam will be recording the road without having to touch anything. When your key leaves the ignition, the dash cam will automatically turn off.

Some more good news is that this dash cam has a field of view of 145 degrees. While this isn’t as much compared to the previous dash cam, it’ll still do the job. The high field of view is important because if you ever get in a car accident, it’ll record a bigger viewing field. This will help you if the car accident was on the side of your vehicle.

An energy-saving LCD screen off timer is also included with this dash cam. Just like the previous dash camera, this one also has a loop recording feature. The loop recording feature helps with storage management. A g-sensor is also included in this dash cam. This is essential to have if you ever get in an accident because it’ll automatically start recording. Users can set the sensitivity of the g-sensor on low, medium, or high levels.

If you’re worried about vehicle security and you’d like to keep an eye on it, this dash camera is probably the best for you. Instead of having to purchase a sensor, this dash camera already has surveillance for your vehicle. The camera watches your vehicle at all times in parking mode.

Hit-and-runs are popular, and unfortunately, many people have had an issue with people that do this. One of the best features about this camera is that it’ll never miss a license plate. It has an image sensor included for this reason, and it’ll catch the license plate even in various weather conditions.

To store your recordings, this camera has a 32GB memory card already inside. USB and battery power are supported by this device. Cold and hot weather conditions are compatible with this camera because it won’t mess it up.

An 18-month warranty is included with the purchase of this dash cam. You’ll also receive lifetime support and a 30-day money-back guarantee if you’re unhappy with this camera.

To save storage on the SD card, the camera has a motion sensor. The motion sensor will automatically start when the vehicle starts moving. It’ll stop when it senses that the vehicle has stopped moving.

Conclusion

Overall, this is a good dash cam, but people have reported having issues with the dash cam not working as it should. Some defective models have been shipped out to some people, but the company has replaced the cameras because of the warranty that’s included.

This dash cam has more features compared to the previous dash cam we reviewed. Two of the best features about this dash cam is the motion sensors and the night vision camera.

  • 145 Degree Field of View
  • Accident Detection Feature
  • Includes 32GB SD Card
  • Loop Recording

3. REXING S300 – Weather Resistant

REXING S300 – Weather Resistant

This dash cam is another camera that records in high-definition. It only has the option of recording in 1920×1080 at 30 frames per second. The good news is that this dash cam has a 170-degree wide-angle like the first product that we reviewed. The camera can also record in night vision.

It has a large screen, but slim design. This is essential for keeping your camera discreet. A 16GB SD card is included with purchase. You have the option of selecting a loop recording. A loop recording will guarantee that you won’t miss any action. The camera is ready to use right out of the box. You won’t have to set anything up, and you won’t have to buy other products.

When it gets dark outside, the camera will automatically switch over to night vision. Included with the camera is an adhesive pad so that you can mount it to your windshield. Just like the previous products, this camera features a g-sensor. If you get in a car accident, the camera won’t miss it. The camera has a lock option that will lock the file on your storage memory. This is the only camera that we’ve reviewed so far that has a rotatable lens. This means that it’ll record your front and rear view activities based on your choosing. Product manuals can be downloaded on Amazon.

Conclusion

Overall, this camera is pretty good, but the previous cameras that we reviewed have more features for less money. 16GB SD card is included, but the previous camera provides a 32GB SD card. You can always buy another SD card, but why not get more storage for less money?

  • Accident Detection Feature
  • Includes 16GB SD Card

4. KDLINKS X1 – Smooth Video

KDLINKS X1 Full-HD 1920 x 1080 165 Degree Wide Angle Dashboard Camera Recorder Car Dash Cam with GPS, G-Sensor & WDR Superior Night Mode

KDLINKS X1 – Smooth Video

This high-definition camera records video at 1920x1080P at 30 frames per second. 165-degree field of view captures a wide range of the road. Videos record using a continuous loop. Like the previous cameras, this camera will automatically record without having to use your hands.

This product has a large screen with a slim design. If you’re looking for a camera that is discreet, you’ve found the perfect one. One feature that we don’t like about this product is that it includes an 8GB SD card. This means that it doesn’t have much storage. It would have been better if it included a 32GB SD card. You can always purchase a higher GB SD card, but that means that more money will come out of your pocket.

Night vision is included with this camera, as well as a GPS. It records GPS data in recordings. Users can check vehicle location, speed and route on Google Maps through the software that’s included with your purchase.

Just like the previous products we’ve reviewed, this camera includes a g-sensor to detect a car accident, and it’ll also lock the video file in your storage so that you won’t lose the footage.

A high-quality battery is included. It can survive in extreme temperatures ranging from -40 to 170 degrees Fahrenheit for over six hours. It’s been tested and given a certificate by PONY. It also has an official MSDS report.

When you take recordings, you don’t have to worry about quality. This camera records in high-quality with smooth footage. The camera records high-quality footage even in poor lighting conditions or extreme weather.

The camera starts recording when you start your vehicle, and the camera will turn off when you turn off your vehicle. Included with this camera is a high-quality sensor named the AR0330.

To mount this item to your windshield, simply use the suction cup to install the item. The GPS is high-quality, and you can put it on your windshield without any clutter. The item uses Windows and Mac GPS video data player software with Google Maps.

A one-year warranty is included if you decide to purchase this dash camera. The warranty only covers hardware issues. The company guarantees that they respond to all inquiries within 24 hours. If you aren’t satisfied with your purchase, they do allow returns.

Conclusion

Overall, this camera is obviously not the best on the list. The best feature about this camera is that it has GPS that records speed, vehicle location and route. The previous products that we reviewed have more features at a better price. A big downfall of this item is that it has an 8GB SD card. This won’t hold many recordings, and it’s unclear if this dash camera can hold a 128GB SD card.

One of the best features of this dash camera is that it records video smoother compared to the previous items.

Pros

  • High-Definition
  • Night Vision
  • GPS Included
  • 30 Frames Per Second
  • 165 Degree Field of View
  • Accident Detection Feature
  • Loop Recording
  • One-Year Warranty
  • Motion Sensor

Cons

  • Not Enough Memory

5. WheelWitness HD PRO  – Time & Date Stamped

WheelWitness HD PRO – Time & Date Stamped

This is one of the top dash cameras on Amazon besides the editor’s pick. This is another high-definition camera that allows you the option of choosing the size to record your videos. You can choose from 2560×1080 or 2306x1296P. This is currently the highest resolution that you can record videos. This camera records in high-quality. It allows the user to see every detail.

Like the editor’s pick, this dash camera has a 170-degree field of view. A 16GB SD card is included with purchase so that you won’t have to purchase one separately. Some more good news is that this camera has night vision. The wide dynamic range allows the camera to show a fully balanced exposure.

Two sticky mounts and one suction is included when you purchase this product. Once the SD card is inserted into the camera, all you need to do is plug the camera in using the cigarette lighter in your vehicle. It’ll start recording automatically.

A GPS system is included with the camera. With the GPS enabled, you’re allowed to follow your vehicle on Google Maps. Continuous loop recording is one of the best features of this item. Once it starts automatically recording, it’ll continue to record until the SD card is full. Once the SD card is full, it’ll delete the oldest videos to make room for more.

A motion sensor is included with this camera to guarantee that you won’t miss important video footage. The video screen is three inches to show you what you’re recording. Even though it has a three-inch screen, it’s still discreet.

Time and date stamps are included with recordings. An extra bracket is also included if you need one for another vehicle. The dash camera has the option of manually adjusting audio.

The bad news is that this dash camera only supports an SD card up to 64GB. This means that it’ll hold fewer video recordings compared to an SD card that holds 128GB of memory. While it’s considerably less compared to the previous products that we reviewed, you’ll probably still be satisfied.

To preserve power, the company included a screen saver. A battery is included with this item, but you need to use the cigarette lighter unless there’s an emergency. An HDMI and USB port is included.

Conclusion

Overall, this item is great, but the previous dash cameras are probably better. Even though this dash camera has many features, it’s unclear if it records your speed, vehicle location and route.

The big disappoint about this item was that it’s not compatible with 128GB SD cards. Some people may not like this. This dash camera is only compatible with SD cards up to 64GB.

Something that we haven’t seen so far is an HDMI port built into a dash camera. The HDMI port is good to have to view footage on your television and computer if they have an HDMI port as well.

To get power to this camera, you’ll need to have a cigarette lighter in your vehicle. Unfortunately, some newer vehicles don’t have cigarette lighters anymore, so this may be an issue.

Pros

  • High-Definition
  • GPS Included
  • 30 Frames Per Second
  • 170 Degree Field of View
  • Accident Detection Feature
  • Loop Recording
  • Motion Sensor
  • 16GB SD Card Included
  • Time & Date Stamps
  • Manually Adjust Audio
  • HDMI & USB Port

Cons

  • Not Enough Memory

6. ITrue X3 – Best Night Vision Dash Camera

ITrue X3 – Best Night Vision Dash Camera

One of the downfalls you’ll probably notice is how big this item is. If you’re trying to be discreet, this dash camera won’t be the one you’re looking for. It does have superb features for a good price though.

A full high-definition video that records at 1920×1080 at 30 frames per second is just one of the superb features that this dash camera has to offer. It has a wide field of view that is 170 degrees. Everything that you see while you’re driving is what the camera sees and records as well. Night vision is included.

The auto-record is another feature that this dash camera has. The camera automatically starts recording when you start your vehicle. If you turn off your vehicle, the recording will stop. The dash camera has a continuous recording loop.

Accident detection is included with this item as well as an emergency lock button. The lock button allows the user to lock the recording in memory so that it won’t get lost or deleted.

The leather case that’s around the dash camera prevents glare and reflection when it’s recording. An 8GB SD card is included with purchase, but we feel like this isn’t enough memory to store recordings. You can purchase an SD card with more memory, but that’ll be more money coming out of your pocket. 32GB is the maximum amount of memory on an SD card that is supported. While this is decent, it’s not the best.

USB and audio recording are supported. Operating temperatures are certainly not the best. The previous dash cameras can better manage extreme temperatures compared to this item. The operating temperatures range between 10 degrees Fahrenheit and 140 degrees Fahrenheit. It’s recommended that you remove the dash camera from your windshield to ensure that the dash camera won’t overheat. If it does overheat, the item may get damaged.

A charging cable, USB cable, user manual, a mounting holder for the camera and an 8GB SD card is included with your purchase of this dash camera. Be sure that you use the charger to power the dash camera. The batteries are only supposed to be used to save files during an emergency.

Be sure to turn off motion detection while you’re recording to prevent the camera from stopping recording. If this happens, only small files will be saved.

If you decide to purchase this dash camera and there’s no SD card in the box, it has already been inserted into the camera.

A one-year warranty is included with the purchase of this item. The warranty covers any issues that may arise with this product.

Conclusion

Overall, this is a high-quality item, but there are better dash cameras out there for a better price. This dash camera had more negative qualities compared to previous cameras that we reviewed.

  • 30 Frames Per Second
  • Night Vision
  • 170 Degree Field of View
  • Accident Detection Feature
  • Continuous Loop Recording
  • Motion Sensor
  • 8GB SD Card Included
  • Automatically Records

7. Spy Tec A118-C – Best Power Technology

Spy Tec A118-C – Best Power Technology

One of our favorite features about this dash camera is that it uses a capacitor as its power source. It’s the most convenient dash camera that we’ve reviewed so far. It doesn’t use much power because of the way it was built, but it still records high-definition videos with smooth movements.

Another feature that we haven’t seen yet is the ability to record videos at 60 frames per second using night vision. Even though some people can’t tell the difference between 30fps and 60fps, there’s a huge difference. If you don’t believe me, watch this YouTube video. Be sure to click on the settings, and set the quality at 1080p60 HD so that you’ll be able to see the difference. As you can tell, 60fps will be smoother compared to 30fps. This is perhaps one of the best features of this dash camera. To be clear, this dash camera records 1080P high definition with 30 frames per second during the day. At night, this camera records 720P at 60 frames per second.

Even though this item looks big based on the pictures on Amazon, it’s actually compact and discreet. The user places the dash camera above and in front of their mirror to make it look like any other part of their vehicle.

A 170-degree field of view lets the dash camera record everything that you see while you’re driving. This wide range dash camera records both sides of the road as well as the surroundings.

This dash camera allows an SD card for up to 32GB. While it isn’t the best, it should meet your expectations. Unfortunately, it’s unclear if this product comes with an SD card. If not, you can always purchase one. The capacitor that powers the dash camera will be able to survive in extreme temperatures. You’ll never have to worry about your dash camera overheating.

Unfortunately, one of the downfalls of this item is that it doesn’t include a GPS. The company does sell one that’s compatible with this dash camera, but you must buy it separately. It’s wise to purchase it because it allows the user to log GPS coordinates with your driving footage. The GPS allows you to add a speed stamp to your recordings as well. It’s unclear if the company provides a warranty with the GPS and dash camera.

Conclusion

Overall, this is a superior dash camera. This camera probably has the most features available out of the previous dash cameras that we’ve reviewed. You don’t have to worry about the device overheating because it has a capacitor that can survive extreme temperatures.

60 frames per second while using the night vision camera is the best we’ve seen. We couldn’t tell you where you would find another dash camera like this one.

The only downfalls were that this product didn’t have a GPS included, and the memory could be better. 32GB of memory is pretty good, and it’ll save a good amount of recordings, but the recordings won’t be saved on the memory card for long.

Pros

  • 60 Frames Per Second While Using Night Vision
  • 170 Degree Field of View
  • Capacitor
  • High-Definition
  • 30 Frames Per Second While Recording During the Day
  • Compact & Discreet

Cons

  • GPS Not Included
  • Not Enough Memory

8. Falcon Zero Touch PRO – Fancy & Stylish

Falcon Zero Touch PRO – Fancy & Stylish

This dash camera has multiple features that you’ll love. Just like one of the previous products that we reviewed, this one also includes security. The size of the screen is four inches, and it’s a touch screen that makes it easier to use compared to the previous products we’ve reviewed.

A 32GB SD card is included if you decide to purchase this item. It can hold up to a maximum of 64GB of memory on an SD card. The camera records in high-definition in 1920 by 1080P resolution. It records at 30 frames per second, and it has a 170-degree field of view.

Two docking stations are included with your purchase. This allows you to set up the camera in multiple vehicles at ease. Surveillance is included with this dash camera. It’ll continuously record while you aren’t using the vehicle without draining your battery.

While this dash camera has a motion sensor, it’s unclear if it has an emergency button so that you lock the file on your memory card.

The dash camera records GPS data while the camera is on. It’ll let the user see their travel on Google Maps and displays data such as speed, bearing, and weather for that particular day. A micro USB power port and a USB car charger are included with purchase.

A five-year warranty is included if you decide to purchase this item. You’re guaranteed to receive lifetime support.

There’s no way to zoom in while recording or viewing footage. This can become a problem if you need to view a license plate or other important information. Another downfall about this item is that it doesn’t have night vision like some of the previous products that we’ve reviewed. This can become a problem because it’ll be hard to view footage if you ever need it.

Conclusion

Overall, this dash camera has many features, but it does have some downfalls. The biggest disappointment about this product was that it didn’t have a night vision camera. Another disappointment was the fact that there was no way to zoom in while recording or viewing the footage. All of these disappointments can be big issues if you ever get in a car accident and you need proof to back up your story.

Personally, you’d probably be better off purchasing another dash camera. Some items that are essential to have aren’t included. Not only is that an issue, but you can purchase a better dash camera for less money than this one.

9. TaoTronics  – Best Value for the Money

TaoTronics – Best Value for the Money

TaoTronics makes some of the highest quality, inexpensive car dash cameras on the market. This dash camera films video at 1920 by 1080 with 30 frames per second being captured in the process.

One of the downfalls of this product is that it has a field of view of only 150 degrees. Just about all of the cameras that we’ve reviewed have had a field of view for 170 degrees. Even though it may not seem like much, it’s a big difference. The upside is that the video footage will be natural without curly images.

Night vision is a feature that comes with this dash camera. It’s essential that you buy a camera that has this feature if you drive a lot at night. If you ever get in a car accident, authorities will be able to see the video footage clearly.

Loop recording is included with this dash camera. The camera will automatically start recording when you start your vehicle. You never have to touch anything to get it to record. Once the SD card runs out of space, it’ll delete the oldest videos to make room for the newest ones.

Users are able to lock videos or mute them with just one push of a button. The camera will be turned off when you take the keys out of the ignition.

With the 2.7 inch screen, users are able to watch their live recordings, and users can view footage that has been saved. Some more good news is that this camera allows the user to take pictures, add license plates to recordings, change the video format, adjust white balance and more. While it offers a big screen, it’ll still be discreet.

If you decide to purchase this item, you’ll be able to use it immediately. USB cables, windshield mount, car chargers, and a 32GB SD card are all included and ready to go. All the user needs to do is connect the car DVR with the cardholder, lay the USB cable and connect it to the car charger.

Motion detection is also included with this product. This means that it’ll watch your car while you’re parking. Unfortunately, the user must purchase the GPS module separately. If you decide to purchase the GPS module, it’ll keep your route in its records.

USB, HDMI, and audio recording is all supported. The operating and storage temperatures for this product exceeds our expectations. The user can keep this stored in temperatures ranging from -5 to 160 degrees Fahrenheit. The operating temperature ranges from 10 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. We recommend that you remove the dash cam from your windshield when you’re not using it.

If you decide to purchase this, remember that you’ll need to connect the dash camera up to an external power source while you’re using it. The battery is only used to save files during an emergency.

Along with all of these features, there are more features included. You can manually adjust the settings to this dash camera to your preferences.

It’s unclear if this product comes with a warranty.
