Why Do Truckers Use Long Shifters?

Many career truckers swear by manual transmissions. Early automatic models had problems with shifting too early. But newer models offer improved performance. In addition, semi-trucks are not equipped with a clutch pedal, so a true short shifter would reduce the angle of the shift shaft between gears. This would improve the speed of shifting. However, a true short shifter would be difficult to operate in the cramped truck cab.

What is a Shifter Mechanism?

How Do You Install a 18 Speed Shift Knob?
