When Can You Buy a Rivian Truck?

Rivian is the company behind the R1T electric pickup truck. The company is following the example of Tesla and selling directly to consumers. Rivian will hold events where interested motorists can test drive the R1T, starting in the fall of 2021. After this, Rivian plans to start deliveries to interested motorists.

The initial model of the Rivian R1T electric pickup truck will feature an all-electric powertrain. The company plans to release a second model in 2024 that will feature a dual-motor system. The battery pack will be 135 kWh and will provide 314 miles of range. The company will also offer incentives and financing options for those interested in purchasing one of these electric trucks.

Rivian will offer test drives in several major cities in the U.S. This includes New York and Normal, as well as Northern and Southern California. Each test drive will include a 20-minute drive in a fully-equipped tester. Customers will be provided with a Rivian Guide, who will be there to answer any questions they may have. This guide will be with them for the life of their truck.

How Long is the Wait For a Rivian Truck?

Rivian’s initial plan was to deliver the R1S and R1T to their customers by the end of 2021, but they have had to push that date back. In December 2018, the company emailed early reservation holders to let them know that the company is now only able to fulfill a portion of these orders. In other words, the R1S and R1T have been on backorder for nearly a year.

The company is currently experiencing a production issue, with only 5000 vehicles available and 90,000 reservations. Rivian has experienced the same manufacturing and shipping issues that the rest of the world is facing, as well as an extra tight pinch on battery components. This has resulted in extremely long wait times, especially for those who ordered the smaller battery packs.

According to Rivian’s website, the company expects to deliver 15 R1S electric SUVs before the end of 2021. However, the company has hit a production snag, and customers won’t receive their new cars until at least May 2022. Some RivianForums users have reported seeing delivery dates as far back as July 2022.

When Can I Buy Rivian?

Rivian is a new company, and its trucks aren’t quite ready for the public yet. The company has faced supply-chain problems and production delays, which could affect their deliveries. Rivian is addressing these issues by building a second factory. Until that happens, pre-order holders will have to wait six to eight weeks to get their Rivian.

The R1T pickup truck will be available for pre-order on the company’s website, and it will arrive sometime in January. However, the company has experienced production issues and is backlogged with pre-order holders. In order to get more production on track, Rivian is building a second factory and will be able to ship more trucks to the people who have pre-ordered them.

The Rivian R1T truck features an all-electric powertrain. It will be capable of towing up to 11,000 pounds and carry up to 1,760 pounds of payload. The battery packs in the truck’s floor are sufficient to provide 314 miles of driving range. In addition, the company offers incentives and financing for those who wish to purchase the truck.

Are Rivian Trucks Available?

There are a number of benefits of owning a Rivian truck. For example, you can ride in comfort, and there’s plenty of room for your gear. In addition to the spacious interior, you can also enjoy the convenience of a fully enclosed bed. Rivian trucks come with features that are designed to keep your gear safe, including air compressors and storage compartments.

The R1T has been delayed several times, and the initial delivery date was originally scheduled for 2020. But, that was pushed back to September 2021. The delay has to do with Rivian’s lack of manufacturing capacity. Although the company is building a new factory in Georgia, that factory won’t be finished until 2024. In the meantime, Rivian has a large order to fill for minority owner Amazon.

Rivian is also preparing to introduce a new seven-seater SUV, the Rivian R1S. This new truck will feature the same powertrain and technology as the R1T and will be produced on the same assembly line. Rivian plans to start delivering the new R1S by the end of 2021. Rivian will offer two trim levels, the Explore and Adventure, with prices ranging from $70,000 to $75,500.

When Can I Expect My Rivian Delivery?

Rivian has delayed the start of deliveries for the R1S Launch Edition by several months. The company has subsequently pushed back delivery dates for most reservation holders from the end of this year to sometime in 2022. However, some reservation holders have reported getting their cars earlier than that.

As a startup, Rivian is experiencing production issues. With a production run of only 5000 units, they’re having trouble getting enough cars made. With over 90,000 reservation requests, production and shipping are taking longer than expected. The company is also experiencing an extra tight supply on battery components, which has resulted in longer wait times.

Interested buyers can check the status of their reservation via Rivian’s forums. It has a poll thread where Rivian reservation holders can share their delivery windows. The poll runs until July-September, and delivery windows are based on a geographic breakdown.

Can Rivian Use Tesla Chargers?

Rivian has announced plans to install charging stations in public areas of its future trucks and SUVs. The trucks will be compatible with Tesla’s network of quick chargers, and the company’s own charging network will consist of 10,000 Waypoint chargers. However, the truck will utilize a different connector, a Combined Charging System (CCS), than the Tesla chargers.

The company plans to use the existing CCS charging network for DC fast charging, and will also build its own charging infrastructure. In contrast, Tesla is stuck using only 400V, 250 kW chargers, while Lucid is able to use up to 350 kW chargers at Electrify America. In addition, Rivian says its trucks will use 100% renewable energy, and the company will be able to increase charging rates by installing over-the-air software updates.

To charge another EV, it is necessary to use a neutral-ground bonding plug. These can be purchased online or in stores for $10 to $20. It is also necessary to buy a charging cable.

How Much Will a Fully Loaded Rivian Cost?

Customers who pre-ordered Rivian trucks were irate at the price hike and canceled their preorders. In some cases, the price jumps were as much as $20,000. In one case, a Dallas resident who had pre-ordered an R1T found his price jumped from $87,700 to $100,700.

Rivian is eligible for federal tax credits worth $7,500. This incentive only applies on one tax return. Therefore, it’s unlikely that you’ll ever see a Rivian for sale in the same marketplace as a gas-guzzling F-350. In addition, many marketplaces don’t have a clear interface for separating batteries and package options. To avoid these pitfalls, you’ll want to look for a reputable marketplace with knowledgeable staff.

Pricing isn’t hard to calculate, but the initial price for a base R1T pickup truck and R1S SUV is roughly the same. Rivian has also promised to reduce prices as it moves toward full production. Depending on the level of luxury options, a fully loaded Rivian truck could cost as much as $80k.

Is It Too Late to Buy Rivian?

Some Rivian customers are frustrated and unsure whether they’ll be able to buy the trucks they’ve reserved before they’ve even arrived. Currently, the company has delivered 5,000 R1T pickup trucks and 90,000 R1S SUVs. As of May 9, however, more than half of all orders have yet to arrive. According to customer feedback on the Rivian Forums, there are several reasons why the wait is so long. The first of these is that the company has shifted its focus from customer service to marketing efforts. It now prioritizes the needs of its wide base of customers and essentially ignores those who’ve already committed to purchasing a truck or SUV.

The company has raised over $10.5 billion in funding since the start of 2019, and since then it has added thousands of new jobs and expanded its Normal, Illinois, factory. It’s also landed major commercial customers like Amazon, and it has filed for an IPO. Rivian also has facilities in Plymouth, Michigan, and California, as well as an office in the U.K.
