What Do You Mean by Freight?

Freight is a term that refers to the delivery of goods or materials by truck or ship. Freight transportation involves moving larger volumes of goods. Therefore, larger infrastructure is necessary for freight shipping. It also involves a charge for the services. If you need to send your furniture to another state, freighting it will mean you have to send it across state lines.

Freight classification can be based on weight or space. Density refers to the amount of space that an item takes up in relation to its weight. For example, class 50 is given to freight that weighs over 50 pounds per cubic foot. If the item is less dense, class 500 is assigned.

There are several types of freight shipping, each with different advantages and disadvantages. Full truckload involves moving a large load and requires a full semi-trailer. While this method of shipping is more expensive than LTL, it also involves less handling. Partial truckload, on the other hand, allows you to split the cost with other shippers. Partial truckload is a good choice if you are shipping goods that weigh between five and six pallets.

What is Outbound Tender Rejection?

Outbound tender rejections tell us a lot about carrier behavior. They give us a snapshot of the market’s capacity. Carriers are more likely to reject loads when there is low capacity and they can get a better rate moving other freight. However, inbound tender rejections don’t tell us as much.

FreightWaves analysts spotted an interesting trend in Savannah’s tender rejection data. The aggregate rejection rate was higher than the rejection rates for the city’s major lanes. This trend was driven largely by new lanes that were outside the established carrier networks. These new lanes had a higher rejection rate than popular lanes and pushed the aggregate rejection rate up.

The trend of increased tender rejections began early last week and continued this week. The Outbound Tender Rejection Index (OTRI) rose again this week and now sits just below twenty-four percent. This means that almost one-fourth of tendered loads are being rejected at the contracted prices. This trend may be a signal that freight demand is easing.
