What Kind of Trucks Does Frito Lay Use?

We contacted Steve Hanson, Frito Lay’s National Fleet Sustainability Manager, and his Pacific Northwest counterpart Rich Wilson to learn more about the company’s approach to sustainability and its fleet.

Frito-Lay is a division of PepsiCo and has been working to improve its environmental performance by switching to battery-electric trucks. The company plans to replace all diesel-powered trucks in its Modesto manufacturing facility by 2021. It has invested in charging infrastructure for the fleet, which will help the company meet its carbon footprint reduction goals. Frito-Lay says the electric fleet will save approximately 200,000 gallons of diesel annually.

The company recently announced the purchase of 40 electric trucks from Ford. These trucks will be used for delivery and pickup in North Texas. It plans to receive these vehicles later this year. These trucks will reduce Frito-Lay’s greenhouse gas emissions by up to 390 tons a year. Frito-Lay also plans to use renewable compressed natural gas in its fleet.
