In this step-by-step guide, we’ll explain to you how easy it is to recondition your battery. Before we start listing the steps, we should let you know the items you will need to carry out your battery reconditioning project.

All these items can be easily found at your home. In case you are missing out on anything, rush to the nearest hardware store and grab the items. Once you have your toolkit ready, have a look at the detailed procedure of battery reconditioning.

Step 1

Before you start the battery reconditioning process, don’t forget to wear the protective gear to keep yourself safe from any dangerous situation. Wear gloves, mask, apron, and goggles before you start the process. Now, make a weak solution of water and baking soda to neutralize any sudden spills.

Step 2

Now, prepare another paste-like solution of baking soda by mixing two parts soda with 1 part water. Grab a toothbrush and dip it in the solution. Now, rub the paste on the battery terminal to remove the corrosion. If the corrosion is hard, use steel wool or sandpaper to remove it thoroughly.

Step3

Once the corrosion is removed, use a voltmeter to measure the battery’s reading. If the voltage is 12.6V or higher, it indicates that your battery is in good condition. However, the reading between 10V and 12.6V will indicate that the battery requires reconditioning.

Step 4

With the help of the screwdriver, remove the battery caps and lift the battery. Now, pour out the old electrolyte solution in the bucket. Neutralize the solution by pouring 500 grams of the weak baking soda solution you made earlier.

Step 5

In the ratio of 2:1 and 1: 1, prepare a baking soda and water solution. Fill each battery cell with the solution. Once the solution is poured, lock the caps of the battery back on it. Shake the battery for up to a minute and then pour the baking soda solution in the bucket.

Step 6

Use the Epsom salt solution to replace the old battery.

Step 7

Now, recharge the battery – the process will take around 36 hours to complete – and read the voltage reading. If it is around 12.42V to 12.6V, your battery is in good condition.
